The end of the beginning

"At the dawn of 1942 British morale was flagging. Winston Churchill faced many challenges in both his military endeavors and in maintaining the support of the public. The quick loss of Malaya, Rangoon and Singapore; defeats in Africa; the continued threat from German U-boats; the siege of Russian cities: these events in part led to a 'no confidence' motion in the House of Commons. But in December the US joined the war and changed the game. This collection of Churchill's wartime speeches from 1942 shows a renewed sense of hope and optimism, following one of the most trying periods of the Second World War."--Bloomsbury Publishing.
