The Formative Dylan

"The Formative Dylan: Transmission and Stylistic Influences, 1961-1963 is a study of the musical roots of 70 songs from Bob Dylan's early musical career, namely from his first three Columbia LPs, the officially released outtakes from those sessions, and his Broadside recordings. Harvey presents a short article about each song, detailing melodic and lyrical roots and contemporaneous performances in an effort to demonstrate the process by which Dylan learned or composed his formative repertoire."--BOOK JACKET.
