The Sub

The substitute teacher: forgettable, impotent, struggling to educate today's youth. In The Sub, Jimmy Jazz reports from the front lines of American Education, and it ain't pretty. A young man starting his teaching career maneuvers in and out of the classroom, observing the academic circus from kids smoking behind the gym to drive-by shootings, from explaining endoplasmic reticulum to counseling pregnant teenagers. As a writer bred on punk rock, Jimmy Jazz delivers a novel riddled with the woes and slang of the misspent adolescents he encounters. The melting pot of public education is on high boil. The sub steps up to the podium with confidence. The kids smell fear. He doesn't stand a chance.
