Translating History

Igor Korchilov not only facilitated the momentous summit meetings of the late 1980s but spent nearly thirty years translating for Russian leaders, including five critical years as one of the principal interpreters for Mikhail Gorbachev. Though readers are familiar with the momentous decisions reached at these meetings, Igor Korchilov takes us behind the curtains of diplomacy and allows us to look at the very human interactions that color these decision-making occasions.

המשפט הראשון: The first opportunity for me to interpret for General Secretary Gorbachev presented itself on this warm Saturday afternoon.
