Urban Identities

"This book deals with urban identities worldwide, from Glasgow, Scotland, to Canal City Hakata, Fukuoka, Japan. We then leap to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Washington, DC, and the New York Botanical Gardens, Bronx, NY. Design is only the tip of the iceberg in an urban sign system, suggests Leslie Gallery Dilworth in her introduction. A truly successful system is one thoroughly planned.". "Leslie Gallery Dilworth, founder of Philadelphia's Foundation for Architecture and the mind behind Direction Philadelphia and other model urban sign systems, explains the basis of urban sign planning including: funding options, maintenance, and building community consensus." "Information on Maps and Mapping Strategies, Towns and Municipalities, Transit Systems, Parks, and a new typeface for Highway Signs are included."--BOOK JACKET.
