An examination of the ethical and environmental concerns about meat-eating and how it relates to Buddhist ethics. A series of arguments in favour of the adoption of vegetarianism or preferably veganism by Buddhists and others, both from the position of Buddhist ethics, practical considerations and environmental benefit, and an examination of the apparent inconsistency of early Buddhists relating to the nature of mendicant monks and the increasingly vegetarian society of ancient India, and some analysis of modern Buddhist schools differences in dietary restrictions and practices.
