VSAT networks

VSAT Networks covers all the important issues involved with the installation of a very small aperture terminal system. Included are details of how service, economic and regulatory aspects affect this rapidly growing area of satellite communications. Presenting both theoretical and operational aspects, this timely book opens with a comprehensive introduction to VSAT networks followed by detailed exploration of multiple access protocols, delay analysis and system dimensioning. Features include coverage of radio frequency link analysis, focusing on basic formulae and the evaluation of RF link performance, discussion of the network and link layers protocols of the OSI Reference Layer Model, presentation of analysis tools for the dimensioning of VSAT networks from traffic demand and user specifications in terms of blocking probability and response time and practical applications of VSAT networks and description of some of the existing VSAT products. Written by a well-known academic, this book will appeal to students of telecommunications, electronics and computer science. Practising telecommunications engineers and technical managers involved in the planning, design and operation of VSAT networks and systems will also find this book a valuable reference source.
