Wellington Webb

"What does it take to become Denver's first African American mayor? Growing up, Wellington Webb searched in vain for books on the positive contributions of people of color. Determined to write his own history, he entered the unchartered waters of politics." "Beginning with childhood, when he arrived in town as "as sickly 100-pound twelve-year-old with asthma," Webb shares for the first time stories about growing up in a troubled family and struggling as a high-school student, as well as coping with divorce and the tragic death of his young daughter. In this inspirational autobiography, Webb candidly describes the ups and downs of public and private life, including his difficult first days in office, clashes with the media, and the political maneuvers behind his monumental improvements to the Mile High City."--Jacket.
