Western images of China

"Western Images of China describes the ways in which Westerners have perceived China - from the earliest times until the late 1990s. The work examines sources from history, the media, and the arts, to reveal the effects power relations of the day have had on Westerners' perceptions of China and its people." "This book provides an overview of how perceptions about China have shaped the world view, politics, and intellectual environment of the West. Written in an easily accessible style, Western Images of China is intended primarily for the general reader and student, although it will also be of interest to scholars who wish to read a fresh, consolidated account of the subject."--Jacket.
