Why Nuclear Disarmament Matters (Boston Review Books)

"For more than forty years Dr. Blix has worked on global disarmament. Looking back at post-World War II efforts against the use of nuclear weapons in this book, he documents the retreat from commitments by nuclear powers - most alarmingly, from pledges against first use - and the continuing development of new types of nuclear weapons, all justified by the world's powers as a defense against the threat of nuclear attack from rogue states and terrorists. Dr. Blix asks us to take a step back: telling the rest of the world that it must stay away from the very weapons that nuclear states claim are indispensable, he argues, is not a recipe for success. Rather we must take the lead in disarmament."--Jacket.
