Within The Law

Mary Turner, a salesgirl in a New York department store, is unjustly convicted of theft and is sent away for three years as an example to the other employees. She lays the responsibility for the crime at the door of the proprietor who pays starvation wages. On the theory that the law can be molded to suit the convenience of the rich, she surrounds herself with a clever band of crooks- upon her release from jail- with the sole object of acquiring wealth for the purpose of revenge; and she succeeds because she keeps WITHIN THE LAW. from Goodreads
