About the author
Mikhail Lermontov was a Russian writer, poet, and painter from the Romantic era. He wrote in Russian and became one of the central literary figures after Pushkin’s death in 1837. He is also often linked with the Caucasus, an image that comes up again and again in how people describe his work and literary presence.
He worked across poetry, narrative poetry, drama, and prose, and the data here points especially to psychological fiction and verse. His writing is often associated with strong inner tension, sharp emotional tone, and characters who feel observed from the inside as much as from the outside. If you like literature that mixes lyric force with psychological focus, he fits that space well.
A good place to start is A Hero of Our Time, especially if you want to meet his prose and his way of building character. If you want poetry first, Borodino, The Sail, and The Song of the Merchant Kalashnikov are strong entry points. For readers drawn to a more dramatic or darker side, Masquerade or Demon may be the better starting place.
