A road to development

"In a bid to contribute to a deeper understanding in the Nordic countries of the dynamics of political and economic reform in Africa, Nordiska Afrika-institutet convened a conference in Uppsala, Sweden, in October 1994 at which ten African academics and policy researchers addressed an audience of Nordic politicians, academics, senior civil servants, journalists and aid administrators on their vision of Africa's development in the 21st century." "This publication presents a synopsis of the papers presented at the conference, discussing the origins, achievements and problems as well as the prospects for sustainable political and economic change in Africa. Although there is a clear recognition of the problems facing Africa, overall the assessments point in a more positive direction than is usually found in current reporting on Africa."--BOOK JACKET.
