Benjamin Fondane à la recherche du judaïsme

Any questioning of the Jewish writer of the West faces endless ambiguities. For Benjamin Fondane born Wechsler, French writer of Romanian origin, the conquest of identity was difficult. This is neither a practical nor an observance, but a spiritual requirement. Often this relationship to Judaism asserts a paradoxical form. . Like Celan, like Kafka, like Shestov and many others Fondane is one of those Jews of the twentieth century dealing with the Jewish tradition, seeking an outlet for the individual, while Judaism conceives the individual only through the community.
