Commitment in Reflection

The present volume is based on the work of a research seminar conducted at the center for Literary Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1989-1990. The aim of the project was to examine various methods of investigating the overlap between literature and moral philosophy. The editor thanks the participants for having offered their expertise in different fields for the exploration of the vast potentialities of this interdisciplinary study. Special gratitude goes to the director of the Center, Professor Sanford Budick, who gave an initial stimulus to the project and devoted much of his time and intellectual energies to supporting it in every way from beginning to end. -- From Preface (p.ix).
