"The purpose of this work is to provide in one volume the major theological affirmations of the Christian Churches. The selection has been limited to documents which have some measure of official status in the Church's history. In some cases the selection has been arbitrary, but an effort has been made to include creeds which are as representative as possible of the Christian community and which illustrate the developing intellectual consensus of the Church." -- Preface.
