From Hilltop to Mountaintop is the heart-warming and heart-wrenching story of Franklin Sousley, the Marine from Hilltop Kentucky who became a national icon when he, along with 5 others, was captured by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal in the act of raising the flag on Iwo Jima. While the iconic photograph fuses the men into a single historic unit, each of them followed a different path to the top of Mt. Suribachi and each was an American woman's precious baby boy. This book will make Franklin come to life for you and detail the tragic story of his mother's grief and pride.
