About the book

The Aboriginal rock art in the Mitchell Plateau area in Western Australia’s Kimberley region is some of the world’s most spectacular, but much of it is remote and rarely seen. This prolifically illustrated book has more than 600 full colour images of the art and its setting, arranged by the major rivers of the area. All images have been approved for publication by the Wunambal Gaambera traditional owners. The book includes a foreword by Dr Ian Crawford and a comprehensive introduction covering early historical descriptions of the art and brief summaries of archaeology, geology and the importance of past sea-level changes. This is the first of 3 volumes covering the Aboriginal rock art of the vast Kimberley region, the culmination of 20 years of documentation and photography by the author while back-packing through some of the most formidable, remote and beautiful country in Australia.
