Milosevic

"This is the biography of Slobodan Milosevic, currently on trial at the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague for crimes against humanity. Adam LeBor, a critically acclaimed author and journalist who covered the Yugoslav Wars for the Independent and The Times, documents the life of the man whose policies instigated four wars, who skilfully exploited the most modern techniques of media management to whip up a nationalist frenzy, and under whose rule bloody campaigns of ethnic cleansing systematically destroyed a once sophisticated multi-national country. Yet all through a decade of war and misery, Milosevic was courted by world leaders, diplomats and international envoys, with whom he played a game of Balkan cat and mouse, until NATO bombs rained down on Serbia."--Jacket.

First sentence: Slobodan Milosevic arrived in Serbia just over four months after the Wehrmacht, on 20 August 1941.
