More than petticoats

More than Petticoats: Remarkable Ohio Women profiles the lives of twelve strong and determined women, all of whom broke through social, cultural, or political barriers to make contributions to society that still have an impact today. Meet Annie Oakley, champion markswoman and beloved Wild West Show performer; Florence Ellinwood Allen, supporter of suffragists and the first woman to become a federal circuit court judge; children's book author Lois Lenski, who created The Little Airplane and the Newbery Award-winning Strawberry Girl; and Mary Ann Ball Bickerdyke, enterprising Civil War nurse of the western campaign. Each of these women embodied a remarkable determination and an independent spirit that is as inspiring now as it was then. Read about their extraordinary lives in this collection of brief and absorbing biographies.
