The Nuremberg Chronicle is an illustrated chronicle and biblical encyclopedia from 1493, written by the German historian Hartmann Schedel. It was first composed in medieval Latin, and a German version was later translated. The book gathers world history, biblical paraphrase, stories about human history in relation to the Bible, mythological creatures, and accounts of important cities from antiquity, so it works as both a record of the past and a structured picture of how that past was understood.
This is a good fit for readers who are interested in early printed books, late medieval learning, and the way text and image were combined before modern reference works took shape. It is especially appealing if you want an historical survey that is also heavily visual, with illustrated material carrying part of the meaning. The book belongs with other chronicles and reference works that mix history, religion, and visual explanation rather than with narrative fiction.
