About the book
This second Office instalment of the GA series on contemporary architecture starts from 1954 and SOM's Connecticut General Life Insurance Company Headquarters and from there leaps into a wide array of 50 modern masterpieces. Chronologically presented, the book covers familiar classics by Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto, Oscar Niemeyer, Eero Saarinen, and Norman Foster, plus more recent work by Morphosis, Renzo Piano, Steven Holl, Jean Nouvel and Frank O. Gehry. It gives an up close look at each edifice along with numerous photographs, architectural drawings and plans.
