"A contemporary of Hume, Thomas Reid is especially known today for his opposition to skepticism and "the way of ideas" (the notion that what the mind perceives is not objective reality, but simply an internal image). Reid was one of the first to question this view, which is still prevalent today, and pointed out some of the negative consequences to which it leads.
