About the book

T hroughout his life, Rolland returned to his autobiography, rewriting it to rebuild it according to his intellectual development during this walk on a "winding rising road", both object and subject of artwork. In this self-writing, journal and correspondence constitute privileged places and moments. Other texts intended for publication show how the transition from the event recorded in a diary to the recollection reported in the Memoirs ( Inner Voyage ), from the reminiscence of the episode lived to the scene of the work of fiction ( Jean- Christophe ). Lastly, less autobiographical works reveal confessions close to confession, examination of public conscience or personal political assessments ( above the melee , prefaces of collections of articles). These writings reveal the part which, in the political argument or the didactic intention, belongs to the writing of oneself.--Translation by EUD,
