Ropes to God

"Profiles of Healing is dedicated to helping the world's most revered healers, shamans, medicine people, and leaders of complementary medicine tell their stories. The series is a project of the Ringing Rocks Foundation, an organization that supports the survival and future development of global healing wisdom through education, research, and special projects. A detailed personal account of the Bushman spiritual universe is set forth in this volume. Bushman doctors from Namibia, both men and women, discuss their encounters with ropes, cords, threads, and lines of light that enable them to ascend to the ancestors and Big God in the sky as well as spiritually travel to other Bushman communities. These doctors openly describe the nature of their spiritual power and how they learn to move it in their bodies, transforming themselves into states of hyper-arousal and altered consciousness. Illustrated with rock art provided by the Rock Art Research Institute of the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, this groundbreaking book sheds new light on understanding rock art as it reveals the inner experiences of one of the oldest forms of spiritual expression on earth.
