Storm Runner is born of a mustang mare during Little Owl's vision quest. Little Owl, a Cheyenne girl determined to be a warrior, has a vision of herself riding the mouse-colored paint filly, and she sees them helping to vanquish the Cheyenne tribes enemy, the Crow tribe. Before destiny can be realized, however, Storm Runner is stolen. Little Owl's quest for her horse takes her from the Shining Mountains in Northeast Wyoming, to the Tetons and Jackson Hole. Filled with battles and adventures, it is a story of an Indian girl and her "spirit horse.'
