"This is Bill Freund's first children's book based on his own fascinating history. Every word of the COOKIE story is true and happened to him and his family in the 1930's when he was eleven. His family came to the US from Germany. They were allowed to take only $7 among the four of them -- Mama, Papa, sister, and he. But Mama was smart. She said, what you learn and take away in your head nobody can ever take from you. That's a fact worth learning and remembering. "
