To pursue a dream

Ever since Kelly Bradley's pet hamster died, she always wanted to be a veterinarian. After years of school-book learning, Kelly's opportunity for on-the-job training comes through. Eagerly, she leaves her home and family in Boston and heads for Wisconsin to spend the summer assisting Dr. Homer Johnson with his animal practice. The summer will not only test Kelly's skill as a doctor, but also her ability to adapt to a rural lifestyle in the beautiful Wisconsin countryside. [text from book jacket]
