About the book

The essays in this volume explore various aspects of the exegetical commentaries of Servius and Tiberius Donato: textual problems, the method and the culture of the commentators, their purposes, the subsequent remakes. For the entire culture of late antiquity Virgil was totus plenus scientia, as defined by Servius--master of wisdom and an expert in all disciplines.
