About the book

While there is no one definition of analytic philosophy, Stroll (philosophy, U. of California) surveys important developments in logic, philosophy of language, epistemology, and metaphysics over the past century. He does this by concentrating on such influential thinkers as Gottlob Frege, W.V.O. Quine, J.L. Austin, John Searle, Gilbert Ryle, Patricia Churchland, and Paul Churchland.

First sentence: The rapidity with which major movements suddenly appear, flourish, lose their momentum, become senescent, and eventually vanish marks the history of twentieth-century analytic philosophy.
