About the book
"Believe it or not, eleven of us were housed in two rooms until I was twenty-one years old"... The families sharing a "Close", or common way entry formed a mini-community. Though the old Glasgow Tenements were by today's standards unfit to live in, there are important lessons here about close communities and the kinds of housing which enable them to flourish.
