Upgrade

Upgrade' breathes new life into forgotten architecture. Past structures are consciously preserved and revamped, expanded and altered, to create something exciting and enticing. 'Upgrade' explores architectural and design concepts that seek to enhance and repurpose our surroundings from slight changes to complete renovations. Extensions upon a rooftop. Factories turned into relaxing retreats. Wood additions contrasting with antique brick exteriors. Through engaging anecdotes and inspiriting images, 'Upgrade' provides vibrant exemplars and enthusiasm for revamping existing spaces. Repurposing the unused: be it an empty chapel that becomes an inviting writer?s nook or a rotten barn converted into a cozy living space for a small family. The projects illustrate the possibility of adding a touch of the new to the old: farmhouses adorned with modern glass additions or churches whose traditional lines now frame an office. What are ruins to some become another?s architectural playground.
