Museum Beelden aan Zee organiseert voorjaar 2011 de eerste overzichtstentoonstelling in Nederland op het gebied van negentiende- en twintigste-eeuwse dierbeeldhouwkunst. De bronzen sculpturen werden gemaakt door gespecialiseerde beeldhouwers, die Animaliers werden genoemd. De grondlegger van het genre was de Fransman Antoine-Louis Barye. De Duitser August Gaul en de in Antwerpen werkende Italiaan Rembrandt Bugatti gaven een nieuwe, twintigste-eeuwse interpretatie aan de dieren die hen inspireerden.
