Heresy

The very concepts of heresy and orthodoxy have come under fire as liberal Christians and spiritual seekers reject the formal boundaries of belief that have been the hallmarks of the church over the centuries. No heresy has ever been eradicated completely; they go underground and resurface in different forms preserved by subversive movements both inside and outside established church structures. In this new book McGrath presents the fascinating story of heresy throughout Christian history and sheds light on these shunned beliefs and their consistent appeal today. McGrath's provocative thesis is that the categories of heresy and orthodoxy should be preserved today. Jesus certainly presented one message in contrast to another. Tracing back to Jesus those messages that, in our best estimation, are faithful to Jesus's mission is still the task of the church despite increasingly popular cries that these practices are outdated and restrict freedom. - Publisher.
